Sir, - There have been many events in modern history which call into question the fundamental concept of nationalism as a political philosophy. However, after the recent horrific tragedy which befell those unfortunate stowaways en route to this country, it is surely time to question by what right we, or any other people, draw borders and apportion to ourselves the exclusive rights to the fruits of such divisions of our world - a world in which we are all mere transient travellers.
Let us now have the courage to push out the boundaries of our human imagination so that we can at least begin to contemplate a world evolved beyond a mere collection of nation states. - Yours, etc.,
Eamonn Boland, Listowel, Co Kerry.
