Sir, - It strikes me that there is more than Princess Diana's death to mourn this week. Can anyone tell me where I can sign a condolence register, lay flowers, say a prayer or ask for an investigation into the appalling tragedy of the two homeless children who died in Dublin last Saturday morning? Ireland 1997, and two cold and lonely 16-year-old untouchables die a horrible death right in the lair of the "Celtic Tiger". These children were not to the manor born, were not a regular feature in Hello! magazine or other mind-numbing examples of a literary "bread-and-games" for the people. Yet they were as real as each of our own children, with the very same need to be loved and cherished. Without wanting to distract from the obviously heartfelt grief of many about the loss of a royal princess, I am asking if the two Irish teenagers who were found, charred beyond recognition, in a derelict house on James's Street do not deserve at least as much attention. I am shocked by both tragedies; however, I cannot grasp our selective sense of outrage. - Yours, etc.,
Mayfield, Cork.
