Death On The Roads

Sir, - My eldest son was the 100th person to die on Irish roads at the end of March 1999

Sir, - My eldest son was the 100th person to die on Irish roads at the end of March 1999. The figure has increased by over 140 at this month of August. How many drivers who noted his death are included in that figure? What measures can your readers take to avoid being included in the statistics at the dawn of the New Year? Our behaviour on the roads will ensure the continual agony of families unless all drivers see themselves as adding to the numbers. - Yours, etc.,

Jim Sweeney, Valley Park Road, Finglas, Dublin 11.
