Madam, – The explanation from UCG professor of biochemistry Thomas Cotter (October 17th), and the comments of Shane Hegarty (Weekend Review) regarding the recent so-called apparition at Knock are apt.
There is another aspect of this phenomenon that is rather more serious, however. People who look directly at the sun are acting foolishly in regard to the preservation of their own eyesight, while adults who encourage children to do so are guilty of nothing short of criminal irresponsibility.
Child welfare and other appropriate authorities should take an interest in the matter if anything like it occurs again. – Yours, etc,
