Sir, - I notice that the city centre has become a more dangerous place to cycle in. In addition to concentrating on the traffic, which seems to be moving faster, the cyclist must also keep a close eye on the road surface, which in some places is potentially lethal. There is also a great lack of places in which to lock one's bike securely.
In Nuremberg last summer, I saw in operation a scheme similar to our FAS schemes. Unemployed people were taken on to construct bike shelters which were completely enclosed each cyclist using a shelter paid a small rental and had a key to that particular shelter.
The Dublin Cycling Campaign is lobbying for better facilities for cyclists and has a very important "Critical Mass Bike Ride" today at 5.30 pm, meeting at the Mansion House, Dawson Street. I would encourage all cyclists to be there and have their voices heard. - Yours, etc.,
