Sir, – Further to Tim Bracken’s complaint about the cost of transporting bicycles on public transport (September 14th), I’d like to let him know that my sister and I enjoyed a week’s cycling holiday in counties Cork and Kerry in May this year. We took pleasant journeys on the train from Dublin to Cork and back from Killarney to Dublin, with our bicycles in tow. And the cost of transporting the bicycles by train? Irish Rail charged €6 per bike for the return trip to Dublin.
I’d hardly call this a fortune. – Yours, etc,
