Sir, - As an Irish-American who has been to Ireland 30 times or more, I am appalled by the Irish criticisms of our right to go after bin Laden and his terrorists. Niall O'Dowd was right: Those Irish critics are moral hypocrites. May I remind my Irish friends of de Valera's telegram to the German people expressing sympathy at the loss of their leader, Adolph Hitler? History is replete with examples of the Irish saying one thing and doing another. It will be some time, if ever, before I go back to Ireland.
And, if you are morally correct in your criticism, why haven't you introduced a resolution in the Security Council embodying it? Mr Higgins is not the only teacher who knows the United States. I am a teacher, writer, photographer and trial lawyer. I represent the values of most Americans, and certainly those of Irish-Americans. We're tired of his and others' "morality" play about our values and actions. When terrorists blow up your Four Courts, Dublin Castle, and your Parliament, don't look to us for sympathy; you'll find only, "We told you so." - Yours, etc.,
Bill Kennedy, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, USA.
