Sir, - Let me assure any of your readers who might think otherwise: it was not Cardinal Connell's intention, in the remarks attributed to him in your front-page headline article (October 31st) regarding Archbishop Empey's theological competence, to impugn in any way the quality of the archbishop's Christianity, of that I have no doubt.
One doesn't have to be a theologian to know that the men whom Christ selected to be the carriers of his Gospel to the world were not intellectuals but fishermen, men renown the world over for their commonsense and their ability to get along with their comrades on long hauls without treading on their toes all the time. - Yours, etc.,
Peter Nelson, Stillorgan, Co Dublin.
