Madam, - Now that we've had the Fintan O'Toole view on Kevin Myers' MOBs column, closely followed by the John Waters view, closely followed by the Vincent Browne view, might I enquire when we can expect the Fintan O'Toole view on the John Waters view, closely followed by the Vincent Browne view of the Fintan O'Toole view?
And are we not then entitled to the Kevin Myers view of the Fintan O'Toole view of the John Waters view of Mr Myers's original column? Or the Vincent Browne view of Fintan O'Toole's view of John Waters viewing Kevin Myers viewing his own navel, if it's still visible, which I very much doubt, and so on ad infinitum, ad nauseam, until the Plain People of Ireland are so sick of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse being presented as the only available opinions on anything and everything that we all rise up and yell to the very heavens "Enough already!"
Newspaper columnists are little better than salaried windbags, court jesters whose sole purpose in life is to lay about easy targets with their ceremonial bladders.
In terms of public esteem, they probably rate somewhere between tribunal lawyers and traffic wardens. Taking a single syllable of what they have to say seriously is the very last thing we should be doing. - Yours, etc.,
BERT WRIGHT, Hillside, Dalkey, Co Dublin
Madam, - While I regret Kevin Myers' unfortunate choice of language in reference to the "B word", and disagree with many of his views over the years, especially in regard to our gaelic language, he is a shining beacon of light in modern journalistic banality.
