Sir, – Several members of the Labour Party have raised the prospect of a snap general election. I have to say it is ironic that while Labour have consistently opposed compulsory redundancies in the public sector, that they should want to give the electorate a chance to give P45s to half of their TDs. – Yours, etc,
Sir, – Lucinda Creighton apparently wants TDs to be “a little steadier, cooler” (Home News, September 4th). What she and her Fine Gael colleagues really want, in my view, is a TD who will not rock the boat and who will cheerfully and unquestioningly vote for whatever legislation is placed before them, regardless of its implications for the social fabric and the general good of this country.
To deprive those in our society who are in real and present need of basic home-help services, while simultaneously retaining funds for fanciful and unrealistic projects such as Metro North, is a piece of callous idiocy on the part of the Government. – Yours, etc,
