Sir, Ms Lelia Doolan "has called for the establishment of a levy on cinema seats in order to provide a secure fund for Irish film production." Such a levy would tax citizens who went to see movies they liked, to force them to pay for movies they don't like.
I suggest, instead, a levy on new proposals by Galway based friends of the arts. Every time they propose a new scheme to take money from the rest of us to fund their leisure pursuits, they should be required to lodge £100,000 to a fund to provide subsidised seats at popular movies. - Yours, etc,
Stradbally North,
Castleconnell, Co Limerick.
