Sir, - Brian Fallon's article (January 14th), "Church Appeal" is grossly misleading in his reference to St Mary's and St Anne's Cathedral, Cork. He obviously is either misinformed or has not seen the work for himself. His reference to Hogan's Statues being sidelined is grossly inaccurate. Nothing could be further from the true. Thirty Hogan Statues were discovered in a locked room in crypt, restored and placed in the upper nave of the Cathedral. Hogan's Madonna and Child has been given a place of honour in the completely restored Lady Chapel, which includes six newly commissioned works by Patrick Pye. Far from being destructive, Cork Cathedral has been hailed by critics and people alike as being a highly successful intervention and renewal.
Mr Fallon's inaccuracies call into question the authenticity of his source of information. - Yours, etc.,
