Sir, - Vincent Browne says (Opinion, October 11th): "Jesus urged only kindness towards slaves, not liberation", and that He actually condoned slavery. Jesus summed up His teaching in the words "Love God and love your neighbour", adding that your neighbour is everyone. Loving your neighbours is incompatible with enslaving them, so a complete condemnation of slavery is contained in His teachings. Were those teachings not sufficiently literal for our enlightened journalists ? - Yours, etc.,
