Madam, – According to reports (World News, November 5th) the Chinese government has written to embassies in Oslo calling on them to boycott the December 10th Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in protest at the award of the honour to Liu Xiaobo. I would like to record my expectation that the Irish Ambassador will attend that ceremony and that a public statement will be issued by the embassy congratulating Mr Liu on his award, calling for his immediate release from prison and insisting upon the release of his wife, Ms Liu Xia, from house arrest. – Yours, etc,
