Sir, - Rosaleen Davey's wonderful letter on Charles Brady (August 28th) understated the warmth and charm of a man whose contribution to Irish art and life will be greatly missed. But then, everything about him was relaxed and understated.

Those who were privileged to spend time in his front room at Royal Terrace, Dun Laoghaire and watch him paint an envelope, an apple or the strand will forever remember the quiet confidence of a man clearly at peace with himself and the world.

But here in the north-west we will remember him for kindness he showed to us when Boyle Arts Festival was in its infancy. The generosity he showed in lending his name and his work to a then unknown festival will be remembered for a very long time and indeed one of his paintings hangs in our Civic Collection.
