Sir, - I fully agree with Liam Kenny (April 19th) that the centenary of our county councils is an occasion of note. In an era of growing awareness of the importance of local democracy and the devolution of power, such a landmark deserves an action of significance. Perhaps the political parties might declare an end to the double jobbing of TDs/councillors for once and for all. This would help councillors better to focus on the important work to be done at local level - and what's more, with the Dail meeting on Mondays, a full programme of legislation might be enacted. - Yours, etc.,
