Madam, - That Caesar's wife must be above suspicion was a political principle established over 2,000 years ago, though it is clearly one that's not considered to be relevant by this incompetent, arrogant administration.
Miss Celia Larkin's international travel at public expense as the Taoiseach's partner was brazen enough, but this latest appointment - to the interim board of the National Consumer Agency - really takes the biscuit.
This further example of Fianna Fáil's utter contempt for public opinion, manifested by its complete indifference to the notion that Caesar's "ex" should also be above suspicion, amply illustrates the effects of far too many years in power. - Yours, etc,
PETER MOLLOY, Haddington Park, Glenageary, Co Dublin.
Madam, - Several weeks ago I was shocked to learn that the Consumers' Association of Ireland (CAI) had not been invited to the board of the National Consumer Agency. Yesterday's announcement of latest appointment adds outrage to shock.
The CAI has been representing the interests of Irish consumers for nearly 40 years. It is the sole truly independent consumer organisation in the country. It will be a scandal if such an experienced body is not represented on the board of the agency that is supposed to be looking out for the interests of consumers. - Yours, etc,
DAVID SOWBY, Knocksinna Crescent, Dublin 18.
