Sir, - Henry Hall of NC, USA (May 22nd) suggests that the solution to the "Irish Problem" lies in non-religious schools. Perhaps it has escaped his attention that, in the USA, the recent spate of killings by school children has occurred entirely in non-religious schools. The real issue is not whether schools are denominational but rather what values are taught. Given that the US places little value of human life, as evidenced by the free application of the death penalty and the huge volume of abortions, should it come as a surprise that such lack of respect is translated into violence in schools by children? - Yours, etc., Michael Breen,
