Madam, – With regard to the present debacle in the Diocese of Cloyne over Bishop Magee’s arrogant stance, I feel bound to point out that there are many good priests in his diocese and in Ireland generally who must feel let down by “the system”.

That said, I have a few questions for them.

When will they stand up to be counted? When will they reclaim their parishes for their congregations? When will they stop standing idly by?

Is the “brainwash” so complete? Would Christ have behaved thus?

The pensioners of Ireland managed to say when enough was enough recently and took to the streets to prove their point. Their solidarity won the day. Surely our clergy can do likewise. – Yours, etc,
