Madam, - Some few weeks ago my mechanic took my 15-year car for an NCT test. It failed on one point, something to do with an imbalance of pressure between the rear brake cylinders.
My mechanic then rectified that problem and yesterday brought it back for re-testing. He was, to say the least, a little surprised to be told that the car had failed because of a problem with the rear shock-absorbers. He pointed out that he already had a report showing that there was nothing wrong with the shock-absorbers, and besides, he was there on a brake cylinder problem.
A supervisor was then called and he decided there must be a computer error. He took the tester outside and some minutes later returned with a new print-out showing the car had passed, and then issued a certificate.
Do I need to say any more? - Yours, etc,
IAN KAVANAGH, Suir Road, Kilmainham, Dublin.
