Sir, - Isn't it strange that cyclists can be arrested while blockading traffic in protest at the token approach of Dublin Corporation to European Car Free Day? The reason for the arrests was, according to the Garda, that they were obstructing cars.
Last November hundreds of taxi drivers protested at the breaking of their cartel by blockading the airport at much inconvenience to many travellers. No arrests were made, heavy-handed or otherwise. Garda∅ claimed they wished to avoid exaccerbating the situation.
Is this a case of all road users being equal but car drivers being more equal than cyclists? - Yours, etc.,
Laurence McCormick, North Circular Road, Dublin 1.
