Calling a halt to Metro North

Madam, – The Metro North project is an extraordinary waste of precious public (our!) money.

Madam, – The Metro North project is an extraordinary waste of precious public (our!) money.

It’s the wrong train. We end up with yet another incompatible transport system and transport operator – to add to our two-track Luas and one- (soon to be two-) track Dart. This is just silly. The system should be Luas or Dart- based.

It’s in the wrong place. A key point in building a transport network is to connect transport hubs. True, Dublin Airport is a transport hub, but the other main Dublin (Ireland) transport hub is Heuston Station. Metro North should be a part of the Dart network and run from Dublin Airport to Heuston with continuing service to the city centre and Pearse Street/Connolly Station. (Better of course would be also to divert the northern main line rail through Dublin Airport to Heuston and free up the existing Dart line for Dart-only services – but that would take actual planning).

It’s the wrong time. We’re broke. This is not the time to spend €5 billion (most likely more) on this silly scheme. We already have a barely-used €0.7 billion road tunnel to fill. – Yours, etc,
