Sir, - Theo Dorgan, director of Poetry Ireland, stated (May 19th) that he would be voting a sceptical Yes in the referenda, sceptical as he doubts the integrity of most of our politicians.
This is an amazing generalisation for one of our intellectuals. Since he so openly doubts the integrity of the people who guarantee the freedom he enjoys, it behoves Mr Dorgan to put himself forward at the next election and thus, according to his perceptions, increase the calibre of the politicians the people deem to elect. In the meantime, may I recommend to Mr Dorgan six to twelve months in a totalitarian regime such as Iraq. I am sure this will help his poetic talent flourish even more. - Yours, etc., Dr M. A. Honan,
Portarlington, Co Laois.
