Madam, – Over the past couple of years there has been a growing consensus that there is an over-representation of TDs in the Dáil, and while Opposition parties in particular have been vocal on this matter, there is very little by way of policy. On the other hand there are now three vacancies in the Dáil and the Government has not moved the writs to fill them, yet it is pilloried by the same Opposition which fulminates against this and bewails the under-representation of the people.
This puts one in mind of St Augustine’s words: “Give me chastity and continency, but not yet”. – Yours, etc,
