Sir, - It would appear that the Christmas cheer did not take long to leave Mr Stephen Place (letters, January 11th). Being a most definite non Boyzone fan myself (honest), I still found quite annoying the "if I don't like it it's worthless" attitude expressed in his letter.
So Boyzone were contrived, so what? So were the fab Monkees and the increasingly bearable Take That. So their target audience is five to 15 year old girls. I don't see the problem, and to say that these fans don't know good music is snobbery exemplified.
Personally I can't fault the lead singer's voice, though I prefer a bit of Marvin Gaye myself. And as for all this Cat Stevens Salman Rushdie tosh, are we to analyse the political and moral philosophies of every song writer before we purchase another artist's version of their work? - Yours, etc.,
