Sir, - The CAO and our third-level institutions are often viewed, particularly at this time of the year as cold, unfeeling, faceless institutions that stick rigidly to protocol and process.

Some weeks ago, my daughter's future in third level education was in jeopardy due to a simple administrative error on my part.

Through the medium of your newspaper I would like to extend my sincere thanks to those who dealt with our situation at the CAO offices in Galway and to the admissions office at UCC. Their generosity of spirit and healing response to my frantic queries calmed my darkest worries and proved that, although a system is never perfect, it is often run by sensitive, sympathetic and understanding human beings.

I am delighted to report that the outcome of my conversations with both institutions was positive and my daughter's future in UCC is now secured. - Yours, etc.,
