Sir, - I note from The Irish Times (May 15th) that BUPA Ireland has agreed an arrangement with the Irish Hospital Consultant Association regarding fees.
I wonder if that august body of highly trained and sumptuously paid medical experts is aware, or cares, that its partner in the deal is operating an age discrimination policy, as VHI does.
No one above the age of 65 can join BUPA or VHI as a new member. In view of this, I repudiate BUPA's reported claim that it provides a "community rated" service, when it is risk rating many members of the community and denying them the right to choose to pay for private health care if they wish to do so. - Yours, etc.,
