Sir, - I am, like John Fitzgerald, disappointed to hear of five dead trout on Lough Corrib. Research and assessment is currently taking place on three of the last remaining indigenous brown trout lakes, with the objective of reinstating them to their past glory.
However, we must understand that, in the interest of the overall good and prosperity of the western lakes, it is inevitable that some mishaps and mortalities will occur. In the interest of conservation I hope that John Fitzgerald like some concerned anglers, has adopted a catch and release policy (I.e. not killing his catch).
I wish the Western Fisheries Board every success in their endeavours and that many local and foreign anglers will be able to avail of the fruits of their current enhancement programme, within the next couple of years. - Yours etc.,
Tuamgraney,
Co Clare.
