Madam, – It is timely for us as a nation to seek and find new means of expressing our identity.
As I walked through Merrion Square on February 1st, the day we celebrate our national patroness, Bridget it struck me that the current name, “Archbishop Ryan Park” belongs to the old model of patriarchy, a model of grievous destruction hidden under a cloak of misguided deceptions which have served us poorly.
We need to cast off this old cloak and make way for the new.
We have the opportunity to name this square Bridget’s Park after our patroness.
My vision is for us to embrace a new model inspired by the “cloak of Bridget”, a cloak full of loving abundance for all. Placing Bridget centre-stage in this way can act as a powerful symbol of a new and uplifting vision for our future as a nation. – Yours, etc,
