Madam, – Minister for Enterprise Batt O’Keeffe has said one in five babies globally will be fed on Irish milk formula. This followed the announcement of a €50 million investment in a Danone infant formula manufacturing plant in Cork. The actual amount invested by Enterprise Ireland is confidential. Breastfeeding rates in Ireland are among the lowest in Europe. May I suggest the State makes the same financial investment in breastfeeding support for mothers and babies as Danone received from the taxpayer?
– Yours, etc,
