Madam, – I read Frank McNally’s An Irishman’s Diary last Friday with interest. My grandfather had a business relationship with Boss Croker and arranged the insurance on the 1907 Derby winner Orby.
Following the horse’s death he obtained a hoof which was mounted as an inkwell and suitably inscribed.
Unfortunately this was stolen in a house robbery over thirty years ago. If it came into the possession of anybody in the meantime, my family would be grateful to obtain its return. – Yours, etc,
