Madam, – Portraying the core Christian essence of generosity in spirit and openness of heart, your Front-page picture today (June 17th) of Derry Bishop Ken Good and other Protestant Church leaders with Jean Hegarty provides a searing message of hope and transformation.
This inspirational image, in its glorious and bright simplicity, could now perhaps replace the tragic iconic shots of Bloody Sunday, and proffer a new healing and renewed departure towards genuine community reconciliation. There is a way to go, for sure, but this picture can certainly boost and warm the authentic cockles of the community heart.
Good is good, and no mistaking. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – I would agree with Andrée Murphy of Relatives for Justice when she says “We must have a process for all victims” (June 17th).
So why not start with the relatives of the 713 civilians and the 508 security personnel, in Northern Ireland, who were killed by republicans in the course of the Troubles?
It is also worth noting that the Provisional IRA killed more Catholics than the UDA. I think she would agree, there can be no selectivity when it comes to grieving relatives. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – If Gabriel Doherty (June 17th) does not understand the significance of the Saville report compared with John Major’s earlier statement, then that does not bode well for the school of history, UCC. – Yours, etc,
