Sir, - I would like to echo the chorus of approval for Eoghan Harris's revelation that the British troops did not use machineguns on the crowd in Croke Park on Bloody Sunday. It needed to be said.
I can well remember a grand aunt of mine who witnessed the event. Describing the aftermath, she said that one of the casualties raised his bloodied hand and called out to the people around him: "It's all right, lads, it wasn't a machine gun!" before falling back dead. The wave of relief that swept through the crowd at this reassurance was palpable, with many urging the continuation of the match.
Hats off to Eoghan. Nothing escapes the man. - Yours, etc..
