Madam, – There are a number of striking points from Bertie Ahern's interview in the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita (as reported in The Irish Times, Front page, October 28th).
There are contradictions in what he says: “I can blame only myself” and “we believed that there would be buyers of properties forever . . . It was a mistake on our side”; he does not feel responsible and shifts the blame to the collapse of Lehman Brothers; he had to spend, because politicians from each side told him to; and he seems to feel he still has the public support to warrant a presidential nomination.
Perhaps, though, the most bizarre thing is the idea that he needs to find something to fill his time. It is my understanding that he is still a full-time member of Dáil Éireann. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – Bertie Ahern told a Polish newspaper “I can blame only myself” (Front page, October 28th). I blame him too. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – Enough is enough. I hereby call on Bertie Ahern to lay out his Lehman excuse in layman’s terms.
He has his work cut out for him, literally and figuratively. – Yours, etc,
