Sir, - I read with considerable interest the article concerning the attempt to develop Belgrave Square in Monkstown, Co Dublin (June 17th).
What is of interest to me is: why would a developer spend a considerable amount of money on property which is presently zoned for open space/amenity? Does he possess psychic abilities which allow him to look into the future and see the property in question rezoned by the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, for either commercial or residential use?
I personally don't believe in extra sensory perception, but I have seen too many instances of zoning manipulation by local authorities that benefit individuals who, it might seem, have been blessed with the ability to predict future events. Be that as it may, I wish the residents of Belgrave Square all the best in their battle against the encroaching developer, but then again I probably would have wished General George Custer "good luck" prior to the Battle of the Little Big Horn! - Yours, etc., Edward D.
