Belgium, Ireland and the beautiful game

Sir, – There was one omission in James McDermott's excellent article on the footballing links between Belgium and Ireland ("Links between Belgian and Irish football go back centuries", Sport, March 24th). FC Irlande, founded by Irish expats in 1989, is now one of the largest amateur football clubs in Belgium. The club fields nine teams weekly, is represented by players from over 50 countries and all buy into the club's strong Irish ethos.

In 2011, the men’s first team were crowned champions of the Brussels amateur football league, and more recently the ladies first team has climbed as high as National League Division 2. – Yours, etc,

PETER O’BROIN,

London.
