Sir, Professor William Shannon articulates most people's despair at the lack of decency in Irish public affairs, when he writes about the Beef Tribunal fees. His point that we cannot continue to ignore the dishonesty of, those practising law and politics in this country, and that we must begin to do something to counter this dreadful rot, is now becoming increasingly evident.
Our public representatives are blatantly self serving their lack of charity and idealism at all levels in the service of the people are embarrassingly evident. The grasping approach of some of our legal brethren in the area still mu St be loudly criticised.
Before solutions can be conceived, the problems must be identified at the roots at town council level, county council level, as well as in national government. These so called custodians of the national mores these guardians of, our values and ethos must be forcibly reminded of their obligations, in both their personal and public lives. How and why, people put up with this state of affairs must remain a sot bafflement to us all. Yours, etc.,
Strand House, Youghal, Co Cork.
