Sir, - While having my Roman-style bath, I read John Boland's "Bookworm" of December 7th. He refers to Ivy Bannister's acrobatic bath in Fitzwilliam Square.
I have not read Cronin or Knowlson on Beckett, but I was reminded that on my first visit in the 1950s to Beckett's Paris flat, I noticed he had the luxury of a bath and mentioned that I had none in my place. He told me that when he first moved in he had no furniture, so he slept in the bath. Later, Nora Joyce gave him some left-over furniture. - Yours, etc.,
Kinsale, Co Cork.
