Madam, - A long-standing customer of AIB tells me that he has received from his local branch of this bank a communication indicating that the facility to store his title documents is being withdrawn.
Along with many other senior customers of this bank who are receiving similar communications, he does not have a facility in his home to store such important documents and I'm afraid I only added to his worry and distress by strongly advising him not to retain title documents in his home for very good reason.
You report that this bank made an annual profit of €1.4 billion for the outgoing financial year, an infinitesimal portion of which I'm sure is attributable to cutbacks in services of this nature.
Is it not a stark reflection on a bank that it can bring such good news to its shareholders and cause such worry and distress to those who are at an age when they should be protected from, rather than subjected to, such treatment? - Yours, etc.,
TONY TAAFFE, Finglas, Dublin 11.
