Sir, - The banks have been advertising the advantages of Internet banking but in some respects their methods of operation are as antiquated as ever.
The other morning I telephoned the Bank of Ireland in Newbridge to ask them to make a transfer to the Allied Irish Bank. I was told that this would take five days. The only way of speeding things up would be to cash a cheque in one bank and pay the proceeds into the other bank, and put up with lengthy queues each time. The two banks are only 50 yards apart. In five days I could fly twice round the world. - Yours, etc., Michael Clower,
Ballysax, The Curragh, Co Kildare.
