Sir, - The refusal by the Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Desmond Connell, to allow Father Pat Buckley to say Mass in a Catholic church is of limited interest, apart from the curious phenomenon of watching a powerful organisation hell-bent (sorry) on a plunge to self-destruction. Of real interest is whether or not Archbishop Connell's church applied the same measure of restraint to Fr Brendan Smyth when it first became aware of his evil practices. - Yours, etc.,
From John T. Kavanagh
