Sir, This letter is written to recognise and commend the people who responded to our need after my wife's bag was snatched last Sunday while walking from the university to the Montrose Hotel, on Stillorgan Road. That will be the only way in which we can thank Seamus O'Tierney, who at great risk followed the get away car in his car at high speed. And Stephen Dowling, who upon hearing my wife's shout, had the presence of mind to make a note of the getaway car's licence plate.

Then there were Eileen Campbell and John Slattery, the gardai who responded not only with professional speed and efficiency, but also with great empathy. Next the assistant manager of the Doyle Montrose, Glen Valentine and his staff, Olivia Feeney and Julie Ann Purcell, took us in off the street and made us feel welcome.

After 30 years of travelling internationally to nearly as many countries, this is the first time we have ever been accosted. While it is an awful experience, it was softened by the kindness and consideration shown to us. It is clear that what happened alter the purse snatch far better reflects Dublin than the snatch itself. - Yours, etc.,
