Sir, - We would like to comment on Hugo Flinn's letter of May 13th. The Amnesty International Report for 1999 states: "The special rapporteur highlighted the absence of the rule of law in Nigeria."
It is a country where there is corruption, armed robberies, police and military brutality, tribalism, the death penalty, the lack of freedom of speech and civil unrest. The attempt to introduce Sharia law will affect many Christians, allowing no religious freedom. In these circumstances, all of us have the right to seek refuge in another country.
Perhaps Mr Flinn should see the other side of Nigeria. - Yours, etc.,
Ola Ogunbunmi, The Women's Group, Vincentian Refugee Centre, St Peter's Church, Phibsboro, Dublin 7.
