Sir, - I am getting sick and tired with politicians and people at public meetings ranting about limiting the numbers of asylum seekers in small towns and villages. They seem to be getting excited about figures such as 10 per cent. People should calm down.
I work in a school with 18 per cent of our students from refugees' and asylum-seekers' families. They are excellent pupils from very decent families. Many of us find the current activities and remarks at public meetings very offensive and downright racist. It's time for the majority of people to speak out. - Yours, etc.,
Cllr Finian McGrath, Griffith Avenue, Dublin 9.
