Sir, - While I am very interested to see what Northern unionists are thinking at the moment, Steven King, the special adviser to John Taylor MP, is wide of the mark on Articles 2 and 3. Amending these will endanger the peace process by taking international pressure off the British Government, remove the right of people from the North of Ireland to hold Irish passports and exclude the North from the Irish nation.

It would also leave the British claim over the North of Ireland uncontested in law. It is a sure recipe for disaster. Let's put everything on the table. The 1800 Act of Union, 1920 Government of Ireland Act, the 1949 Ireland Act and the 1973 Northern Constitution Act - all these issues should be there for detailed discussion and examination.

Above all, each party should take the talks seriously. Mr King should have a word in David Trimble's ear. Inclusive dialogue is the way forward. - Yours, etc.,
