Sir, Was Dr Cyril Daly naive or Just plain unlucky to have his letter published on the very day that the news of Dr Noel Browne's death and recollections of his clash with the Catholic Church in the 1950s were splashed all over the daily papers?
I feel that the good doctor could do with a touch of Dr Willie Walsh's humility, for his remarks were nitpicking in the extreme, and completely overlooked the point that Dr Walsh was making - namely, that the Ne Temere decree was injurious, not only to good relations between Catholic and Protestant neighbours, but also between priest and parishioner where such marriages applied. Witness the letter from your contributor Noelle Clery.
A lot of old ghosts need exorcising, and that's all Dr Walsh's article was trying to do. Good luck to him. - Yours, etc.,
