Sir, - I hope you will allow me to publicly express my disappointment at the building recently of an apartment block, called the Salmon Pool, at Islandbridge, overlooking the beautiful and moving War Memorial Garden. Duchas, the heritage service, which maintains the garden, confirmed to me in writing that it had objected to this development on the grounds of scale and visual intrusion, but sadly it lost - as indeed we all have; all, that is, except those who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.
This sort of development is not in keeping with the ambience of the War Memorial and I urge all those who care about Dublin to object strongly to any further inappropriate building there. - Yours, etc.,
