Sir, I am both angered and saddened by the latest wave of anti abortion posters to appear in Blackrock ("For your information - This is abortion"). Angered that people more impressionable than I should be exposed to this kind of brutal imagery through no choice of their own, and saddened that this is what the movement deems to be "information".
In all aspects of public communication, common sense and intelligence should prevail. Shock tactics such as this say nothing, prove nothing and can only hurt those who are most offended by the imagery.
A young child who sees these posters hears not the debate on abortion and sees not the victim of a tragic situation, he or she simply sees a poster of a dead child. Public areas are not the domain for this kind of campaign.
Yours, etc.,
St. Helier's Copse.
