Madam, – Patrick Confrey (January 24th) complains about his car being failed an NCT test for what he calls a trivial reason. What about all the 10-year-old cars that will now have to pass the test annually, instead of every two years (Motors, January 9th)? Is there any reason for this? Are they more dangerous? Do they cause more road accidents? Is there any evidence-based reason for this imposition on the owners of older cars?
A lot of retiring Government ministers are going to have to get their old cars out again, so we should not burden them with this extra cost on their pensions! – Yours, etc,
