Sir, - Cruel, mindless vandals recently burned out a DSPCA ambulance, essential to animal welfare in Dublin's inner city. Cruelly to animals is, sadly, on the increase in Ireland. The Government provides no financial assistance for animal welfare so without the wonderful work of the ISPCA the plight of our dumb friends would be disastrous indeed.
RTE's telethon for People In Need raised £3.1m. May I suggest to the organisers of the telethon that it would be a kind and generous gesture to donate a portion of this huge sum of money to the ISPCA for animals in need, especially in view of the destruction of their much needed ambulance. - Yours, etc.,
